About
I'm Becca Evans (she/her/hers), a communications and marketing professional and science-fiction and fantasy enthusiast with an eye for accessibility and inclusion. I earned a Master of Art in Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication with a focus on accessibility in digital spaces.
As the Communications and Marketing Specialist for the College of Arts and Letters at James Madison University, I manage the colleges social media channels and maintains the website, develop marketing efforts for current and prospective students including graphics and print materials, and propose new strategies and initiatives to promote the mission of the college. I also build and maintain relationships with communications professionals in key departments both within the college and in the wider university staff to support the communication missions of the college.
I also volunteer with Strange Horizons, a non-profit, Hugo Award-nominated speculative fiction magazine. As an Accessibility Editor, I help make the magazine's website and content more accessible to readers through content warnings and website updates, and in my previous roles as Development/PR team member and Intern Assistant Editor, I have helped research and pursue funding initiatives, managed and wrote social media content, and produced editorials, surveys, grant proposals, and more.
In my spare time, I'm a co-host and contributor with the Hugo-nominated sci-fi/fantasy genre podcast The Skiffy and Fanty Show, and I offer freelance editing and social media management services. When I'm not working, I can be found reading comics, haunting the fantasy section at my local library, or working on my newest crochet project.
