Summer is winding down now that we've hit August, but that doesn't mean the fun has to stop entirely! Before you hit the books later this month, I hope you can find some great entertainment in my latest obsession. Without a doubt, this show is one of my favorite discoveries this summer, and I only wish that I had found it sooner.
Critical Role is a Dungeons & Dragons twitch stream on the Geek & Sundry channel featuring a bunch of "nerdy-ass voice actors" who adapted their own household game of Pathfinder to D&D and shared it with the internet. With over 100 episodes and thousands of fans, there is no end to the fun of watching episodes and geeking out over them with fellow "critters". Experience the magic of consistent roleplay with Matt Mercer and his friends as he guides them through the campaign of a lifetime.
With bad puns, epic battles, a colorful cast of characters, and hundreds of hours of content to enjoy, you'll never be bored. Watching Critical Role has been one of the highlights of my own summer, and I hope that sharing it with you all gives you hours and hours of joy before we return to our regularly scheduled programming. Even if you're not personally into D&D or role-playing, this show is the perfect addition to your day.
The other great thing about Critical Role is that they make a point of supporting various charities, including 826LA (a charity that supports kids and teenagers and helps teach them creative and expository writing skills) specifically, and encouraging donations to charities in any form. A lot of animals have been adopted in their names, and they love every second of it because their show has had a real impact on the world.
I'd been vaguely interesting in Dungeons & Dragons before, but I never really delved into it before. This show has inspired me to look into starting my own game with friends, and I have these amazing voice actors to thank for it! Maybe they'll inspire you to start your own game as well.
Recently, it was announced that Critical Role will be getting an officially published comic, and they've even started selling pre-orders for a D&D campaign book based on their adventures. It just goes to show--good entertainment sells well, especially nerdy entertainment.
You should also check out more Geek & Sundry shows! All of their shows are quality entertainment that feature nerdy, amazing casts, fun games, and real talk about the industries and items that feed our inner nerds. Critical Role is just one of the amazingly entertaining shows that they feature as they share geek-content with the internet. I hope you love it as much as I do!
