This movie, the latest in a long line of Pirates movies, finally started moving the series back towards the original movie, and really bulked up and moved in to take over the theaters! Of course, its fame has been subdued now by Wonder Woman (an excellent, amazing movie--you'll have my review shortly), but even with the lackluster support of Johnny Depp, this film rises above its two more unfortunate predecessors and takes back the name "Pirates" for good.
I did enjoy watching this one! It had a lot of action, some good old-fashioned adult humor, and had audiences laughing and crying because of characters old and new. We get pulled back into the Pirates universe in a way that's earily similar to the first movie: a boy rescues a girl with some help (or hindrance) from a pirate, people who hate pirates are dead-set on killing ALL the pirates, and there's some confusion about which ships belong to which people.

Jack Sparrow continues to be a drunkard, his crew continues to mutiny, and Barbossa is living large on the sea, captain of an entire fleet, and the richest pirate on the seas.
Meanwhile, Will and Elizabeth's son, Henry, is doing his best to break his father's curse, and return Will to Elizabeth's side. Along the way he causes some trouble with a few ships, is arrested for treason, and manages to save a girl, Karina, who is the only person who can read a map that will take Henry to the thing he wants most: the Trident of Poseidon. Karina, thought to be a witch by the unwitting and dull member of society, is about to be hanged, and Henry saves her so they can help each other on their quests, while also picking up a certain Captain Jack Sparrow along the way.
Along the way, there is a dead Spanish Captain and crew, hell-bent on destroying Jack Sparrow for what he did to them, a rendezvous with a certain ship, and a concerning amount of disrespect for the best compass on land or sea. Everyone has their own goals, and an idea of how to reach them, but in the end everyone works together to show that even pirates can stick to a code, and even the deadliest of ghosts can be as mortal as a man.

With a great cast, some stunning parallels, and a healthy dose of magic that contradicts every single formula that sciene has come up with, this movie is a highly enjoyable riot of great special effects and a healthy dose of pirate shenanigans. It's easy to watch, doesn't give the audience to much to think about, and is still a powerful movie.
The movie is a great addition to the "Pirates" family and gives us a good amount of closure. Everyone is hale and happy at the end, because this is a Disney movie after all, but there are some tear-jerker moments that give the audience something to think about. Everyone is settled--but don't miss the post-credits scene. While Disney has been saying that this is the final adventure, I don't believe them for a second after watching it!
Until the next time we see the Black Pearl's flag fly, we don't know what Disney and these pirates have in store for us. Good luck, and keep a weather eye on the horizon.
