I'd give this movie 4 out of 5 stars, because the one guy I truly wanted to make it off the island didn't, so boooooo, and it had a few problems for me.
Otherwise, this was pretty good movie! Definitely stay for the post credit scene, they're starting to pull the whole monster universe together (also, can somebody tell me what Mothra even does. Seriously, it's a moth! It just looks freaky, and how does a moth kill you?). Anyways! This movie kicks off with several bangs, which anger Kong and cause a whole bunch of crap to go down because the Americans wanted to prove a point.
Set just after the US pulls out of the Vietnam war, there are several reasons why exploring this strange island is a bad idea, and all of them are ignored in favor of beating the Russians to the punch. With lives at stake in a war that shouldn't have been started, Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson make the best of a bad situation and try to save the few lives that they can--including, in a twist that everyone expected, Kongs.
If you're a fan of large-monster movies and a few jump scares, this is the movie for you! If you don't really care, you can skip this one and just wait for the biiiig monster movie coming in the next few years (Kong vs Godzilla, anyone?)
If you're a fan of Tom Hiddleston posing like a supermodel and saying nothing, this is definitely the movie for you. The man is like a Greek god put back on earth to remind humanity that we'll never be as attractive as them. And honestly, it took me a while to stop calling him "Tom" in my head, and start calling him his character's name. It didn't change much!
